Milestones of the Institute

Sidana Institute of Education was established as a unique professional institution to prepare quality teachers by practicing innovative programmes. The institution attempts to cultivate right values among prospective teachers by providing them versatile experiences related to teaching. For this purpose, various cells, clubs, committees and resource centres namely: IQAC, Guidance and Counseling Cell, Grievance Redressal Cell, Placement Cell, Psychology Resource Centre, Health and Physical Education Resource Centre, ICT Resource Centre, Science and Mathematics Resource Centre, Art & Craft Resource Centre, Library Club, Science Club, Humanities Club, Literary Club, Creative Club, Anti Ragging Club, Nature Care Club, Sports Club, Alumni Association etc. are running successfully. By becoming the active members of these functional bodies, our pupil-teachers are acquainted with the requisite abilities needed in the educational structure. The pupil-teachers get their personality groomed by holding active positions in these clubs and committees.

It is a really a matter of pride for Sidana Institute of Education that the President of our institute is a renowned teacher of this region. By polishing the competitive skills and providing rigorous guidance to the students, he has helped thousands of students to become successful doctors and engineers. The Principal of this college is a Ex-Dean, Faculty of Education, Guru Nanak Dev University and founder Principal of Lovely Institute of Education. She has guided more than ten research scholars at Doctorate level. More than 20 workshops/ seminars have been conducted/ attended by her and she has 10 publications in reputed journals to her credit.

The institution is striving hard for hundred percent pass percentage in the university final examination right from the first session 2010-11. The institution emphasizes the professional growth of its faculty by providing them sufficient developmental programmes in the form of seminars, conferences and workshops. Moreover, the institution has taken initiative to organize literacy programme by giving adequate education to its illiterate workers. At present, the institution is providing requisite facilities to its faculty members and prospective teachers so as to facilitate this programme smoothly and efficiently. Throughout these years, the institution has been attracting many foreign experts. From the future perspective, the institution is planning to facilitate the teacher exchange programme with other colleges. The institution has made collaboration with more and more schools for the placement of students at grand level. More facilities are added in the infrastructure to strengthen the institution. The institution is also planning to introduce more courses of study to meet the demands of the region.

  • Social Networking Group

We are living in the era of Technology and all the students carry electronic gadgets with inbuilt internet facility in the pockets. For the purpose of sharing information, news, updates and new developments of the institute with the alumni as well as the students of current session, we have created a social networking Id i.e. sidanainstitutes.asr@gmail.com on a social networking website i.e. www.facebook.com. On this Id, we update regularly recent activities done by the institute and students of current session. Thus the students get valuable feedback from the old as well as new members of this Id. It is one of the best sources of contact with our students.

  • I-Genius Scholarship Test

I-Genius a Scholarship Test in Search of talent is regular feature of Sidana Institute of Education, catering to the rural and border area of Amritsar District. Parents and students are not aware about the opportunities of education and job oriented vocational courses after Secondary, Senior Secondary and Graduation level. For this purpose ‘Sidana Institute of Education’ conducts a scholarship test in the name and style of “I-Genius, In search of talent”. It is a scholarship test cum awareness programme to provide information to the masses. Every year more than 500 students of surrounding area appears in this awareness Programme and get valuable information from our end in the shape of group counselling and one to one interactive sessions. All the arrangements are made by the staff and pupil teachers of this institute. In this event our team applied the following psychological tests on different age groups:

  • Creativity Test
  • Vocational Judgement Test
  • IQ Test
  • Attitude and Aptitude Test
  • ASER

Sidana Institute of Education is a partner of a centre based NGO i.e. ASER through Pratham Education Foundations (Punjab) for students of elementary education of rural areas of Amritsar District. The student volunteers conduct surveys related to the following topics.

  • Mid day Meal Scheme
  • Enrolment of students in school
  • Tuition Scheme
  • Usage of Library
  • Infrastructural facilities in the schools of Punjab etc.

During the surveys, our student volunteers and faculty make rural people of Amritsar District aware of various Government facilities provided to promote education in India. Under these surveys, student volunteers visit the allotted villages for 04 days and collected relevant data. The student volunteers are divided into small groups of 03 or 04 students for the purpose of collecting relevant data. The conclusion of such surveys are published in ASER.

  • Faculty and Information Exchange Programme

Sidana Institute of Education has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with 03 other Teacher Education Colleges of the Punjab. First MOU was signed with Innocent Hearts College of Education, Green Model Town, Jalandhar on 13/09/2011. Second MOU was signed with Om Prakash Memorial Institute of Education, Dyalpur, Near Kartarpur on 07/02/2013. Third MOU was signed with Mohan Lal Memorial Institute of Education, Mudhal, Amritsar.

These MOUs are primarily aimed for the mutual benefit of faculty and students of the institutions. Due to this Faculty and Information Exchange Programme, following things are facilitated:-

  • Curricular and Co-curricular development programmes
These MOUs are signed with the objective of improving the quality of education in the associated Institutions and we are working tirelessly to improve it.

  • Extension Lectures, Seminars & Conferences
  • Extension lectures by various Eminent Educationists is a permanent feature at Sidana Institute of Education. A number of distinguished experts have visited the institution.
  • Organised National Seminar on Teacher Education: ISSUES and CONCERNS held on 1st March ,2014 at Sidana Institute of Education.
  • Organised International Conference on topic: Quest for Higher Education on 17th -18th October, 2015 at Sidana Institute of Education.
Such type of extension lectures, seminars, conferences are regular features of Sidana Institute of Education which are arranged as to give platform to students as well as Faculty to understand and discuss various issues concerning students, schools and teacher education and contribute positively to the society.
